acupuncture - traditional oriental medicine
WHAT IS IT?
Traditional Oriental Medicine is inclusive of the practice of Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, counselling, moxibustion, cupping, Tai qi/QI gong, as well as feng shui and I'ching astrology. Traditional Oriental Medicine focuses on treating the wholistic needs of the individual rather than on particular disease states. In so doing, this accommodates for the unique needs of each client, allowing a clearer understanding of the unique health and lifestyle challenges being faced by each individual.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
By addressing the underlying stress factors leading to the development of disease, Traditional Oriental Medicine aims to return each client to their optimum state of balance and health. This may be done with the assistance of acupuncture to rebalance and invigorate certain organ systems or to clear the stagnation which may lead to joint pain for example, or possibly through appropriate dietary adjustments and herbal medicine to strengthen ones immune system. Each case is unique and requires a different approach to suit the individual needs and strengths of the patient.

FAQ's
- How many sessions will I need for relief?
- Depending on what condition, the extent of discomfort, the age and general vitality of the individual, each person will respond differently to treatment. As a general rule of thumb, the more chronic the nature of your condition is , the more treatment will be required.
For example, Joe has been suffering from Sciatic pain deferring down his left leg for the last 6 years before coming in for treatment. Joe began to feel relief after the first 2 sessions, regain strength after 2 months of treatment and a return to normal function without pain after 6 months of treatment. Generally speaking, for every year of the condition, one month following the treatment plan will be required.
- I don't like needles, is acupuncture painful
and always needed?
- No, there are a variety of treatments that may be used depending on the condition being treated. I utilise both the Japanese (shallow and soft) needling approach that has little to no feeling of penetration as well as a Chinese style of acupuncture where more stimulation can be applied to the needle. Many first time clients mention that they have barely noticed the needles being inserted and removed.
